A 38-year-old Oxnard man was killed and another was seriously injured Friday morning after three cars collided in Moore Park, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The accident was reported at approximately 6:30 am along Moorpark Road, just west of State Highway 23, near the junction with Tierra Rejada Road.
CHP spokesman Ryan Ayers said the Oxnard man was driving north on Moorpark Road in a white Honda Accord, while the driver in a gray Jeep Cherokee was heading south. rice field. For reasons under investigation, the Honda driver crossed the yellow double line and collided head-on with the Jeep.
The Jeep went down a nearby embankment and the Honda spun out in its lane and hit a Chevrolet Traverse also traveling southward. The Honda driver was confirmed dead at the scene. His name was not released until the Ventura County Coroner’s Office notified his relatives.
Authorities said the Honda driver was not wearing a seatbelt.
“Had he had his seatbelt on, he could have survived this crash, but he didn’t,” Ayers said.
Ayers said the Jeep driver was rescued from the vehicle under an embankment and broke his leg. He was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Chevrolet was not injured.
Moorpark Road was closed between Tierra Rejada Road and Santa Rosa Road until 10:30 am for inspection and cleaning. A detour was created around the scene for passing drivers, but CHP officials warned of delays in the area.
