130 pounds of weed found in Jeep struck by train


HASTINGS, Nebraska (KSNB) – One person is in jail after a horrifying case turned into a drug arrest.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Department responded to a vehicle/train collision near the Union Pacific intersection on East J Street Friday afternoon. Authorities say a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee attempted to cross a railroad track just north of a legal railroad crossing where there is no railroad crossing.

During the attempt, the car got stuck on the tracks and was hit by a southbound freight train.

The Jeep’s driver and sole occupant were uninjured, but during the course of the investigation, agents found over 130 pounds of marijuana and a handgun at the scene.The driver of the vehicle, Macki Yaquou, from Phoenix, Arizona. Mohammed was arrested and taken to Adams County Jail.

Agencies that assisted the Adams County Sheriff’s Department in the investigation are the Nebraska State Patrol, the Hastings Police Department, and the TRIDENT Counter-Drug Office. The Hastings Fire Department and the Regional Fire Department also responded to the scene.
