Two men are missing after fleeing a traffic stop on St. Helena, ramming their cars and fleeing the scene of an accident, police said.
Around 3 p.m. Friday, a Beaufort County lieutenant attempted to pull a Jeep Cherokee on the Sea Island Parkway for “suspicious activity” from the vehicle, sheriff’s office spokesperson Major Angela Viens said. said.
After the vehicle failed to stop, a chase began. Shortly after, the Jeep crashes near the intersection of US 21 and Folly Road. Three people escaped from the rubble, Viens said.
Police caught one, but the other two passengers are still on the run. Viens said police were unable to estimate the man’s current location.
According to Viens, both men are black men overall, one wearing red pants and a dark hoodie and the other wearing a gray T-shirt and black pants.
Traffic is blocked in the area of Folly Road and Sea Island Parkway as law enforcement responds. Drivers should seek alternative routes if possible.
