Japanese automaker Honda has decided to phase out diesel engines from its market. The company will soon drop the WR-V and Jazz hatchback from its lineup. In addition, the 4th generation City will also be dropped from the line-up. After April 2023, Honda will only have two models of his on the market, City and Amaze. However, Honda has announced plans to launch an all-new midsize SUV in Japan by mid-2023.
Honda has released photos of its mid-size SUV, which is due to be unveiled in the summer of 2023, i.e. April-May. The new SUV will go on sale during the festive season before Diwali. In addition, Honda has started testing an improved City sedan on Indian roads. The updated City is slated to go on sale from March 2023 to his April. The new Honda SUV will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Sertos, MG Aster, Marti Grand Vitara, VW Taigan and Toyota Highrider. Teaser images show that the new SUV will share styling cues from larger Honda SUVs, including the new CR-V and HR-V. It has a coupe-like roofline that we have already seen on the new generation HR-V.
If reports are to be believed, the new Honda SUV will have the all-electronic architecture and screen system offered in the new Accord and CR-V. A new 10.2-inch digital driver display and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system could be added. The SUV could also be equipped with an advanced camera-based driver assistance system or ADAS called Honda Sensing. It offers features such as Collision Mitigation Braking, Road Departure Mitigation, Lane Keeping Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control and High Beam Assist.
The new Honda SUV will be powered by a 1.5-liter i-VTEC petrol and 1.5-liter Atkinson cycle engine with ae:HEV hybrid technology with two electric motors. These engine options are currently offered on the City sedan. The hybrid version will come with a single fixed gear ratio with his three drive modes: engine, EV and hybrid.
