High-performance electric vehicle brand Polestar will begin selling the Polestar 2 Fastback (as the company calls it) in 2020, but the general cosmetic upgrade that new cars get years later is much more. We have already done an overhaul that exceeds.
Starting with the drivetrain, the 2024 Polestar 2 is no longer front-wheel drive. Instead, it got rear-wheel drive with a new permanent magnet motor and silicon carbide inverter. Compared to the old one, the new motor has significantly more power (231hp to 299hp) and more torque (243lb-ft to 361lb-ft). Accelerating from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 5.9 seconds, he is 1.1 seconds faster than before.
The overall design of Polestar 2 remains the same.

Opt for the AWD variant and you get 421 horsepower and a 0-60 mph sprint time of 4.3 seconds. This can be further improved to 455 horsepower and 4.1 seconds with the optional Performance Pack.
Remember that 2016 video of Tesla self-driving?
The long range single motor version of the 2024 Polestar 2 also has a larger 82kWh battery with an estimated range of 300 miles. According to EPA ratings, the dual-motor variant with a slightly smaller 78kWh battery should be able to drive 270 miles in one go. Please note that the US version of the car is slightly different than the other regional ones. For example, in Europe all long-range variants of the car are equipped with 82kWh batteries.
Charging has also been improved. The single motor variant can now be charged with up to 205kW DC. Finally, the new battery’s improved cell chemistry means carbon emissions have been reduced from 7 tonnes to 5.9 tonnes.
The car’s standard equipment has also been updated, with Driver Awareness features now standard and the Pilot Pack added.(opens in new window) A suite of safety features standard on the North American long range dual motor version.

Volvo’s high-performance EV sub-brand, Polestar, has only sold two vehicles so far, the Polestar 1 Hybrid and the Polestar 2, but its first midsize SUV, the Polestar 3, is due out this year. It will be released in the second half. With these extensive changes to the Polestar 2, the company probably won’t rush to launch another compact hatchback/sedan combo (or fastback).
The 2024 Polestar 2 can be ordered from Polestar.com.(opens in new window)starting at $49,800 for the long-haul single-motor version and $53,300 for the long-haul dual-motor version.
