Wilson County, North Carolina (WTVD) — A 19-year-old boy was seriously injured in the crash after leading Wilson County lawmakers in a chase, investigators said.
Investigators said it happened just before 11 p.m. on Bullstone Road near the town of Sims.
A lieutenant, identified as Paul Pierce, attempted to stop a Jeep Cherokee in a US-264 Alt for careless and reckless driving. .

Pierce and the jeep he was chasing lost control on a sharp turn and fled off the road into the woods. Pierce hit some small trees and eventually slowed to a stop and caught fire.
Pierce got out of the patrol car and restrained the five people in the jeep. After the entire ordeal, Pierce was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The Jeep’s 19-year-old driver was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. His four others were uninjured and were able to return home after speaking with his agent.
