A longtime EV owner and current Rivian R1T driver recently shared a rather disturbing incident while charging at an Electrify America station. The incident left the R1T “fried” and the owner stranded away from home for hours. Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time something like this has happened.
Rivian R1T owner @snkrticians He noted that he was charging an all-electric truck at an Electrify America station when he heard a loud bang. This sound caused a number of error codes on the R1T and apparently caused the vehicle to stall charging. It took several hours for a technician to come to the site.
Unfortunately for the Rivian owner, he was two hours away from home. Unable to remove the charger from the R1T, an Electrify America technician reportedly suggested disconnecting the charger and freeing the car, but his longtime EV owner called it absurd. I felt there. Luckily, Rivian helped him by offering his R1T owner a rideshare credit to help him get home.
What’s pretty disturbing about the Rivian owner’s experience is that this isn’t the first time this issue has been reported.Back in November, Ford F-150 Lightning owners Eric Law I posted on Twitter about a very similar experience. According to Lightning owners, they had no problem connecting to an Electrify America charger, but shortly after the charging session started, they heard a loud bang. Then the charger dims and Lightning I got some error codesThe vehicle had to be towed from the station.
Unfortunately for Lightning owners, since the Electrify America incident, the vehicle has been back at dealers since earlier this month because one of its main battery modules failed. It is expected that there will be a long wait for parts to arrive. Ford Services has reportedly advised Lightning owners to ask the automaker to buy back their vehicles.
In response to Rivian R1T owners’ experiences on Twitter, Chevrolet Volt owner The Electrify America charger claimed to have had the exact same experience. Amid these reports, electric vehicle owners urged Electrify America to issue a formal statement on the matter and issue a fix as soon as possible to prevent electric vehicles from “flying” anymore. I’m here.
Tesla Lati I contacted Electrify America for a statement on this matter. If or when Electrify America responds to my inquiry, I will update this article.
