MEXICO – Kia’s Rio subcompact, in its two versions, will become Mexico’s best-selling car at the end of 2022 with 50,958 units, overtaking Nissan’s Versa compact, the South Korean brand reported.

According to INEGI’s Automotive Report, the Rio subcompact sedan saw a 43.6% increase in sales from January to December 2022 compared to 2021.
Meanwhile, Rio hatchback sales increased by 47% at the end of 2022, selling 14,525 units compared to 9,880 in 2021.
“We are extremely proud of the results we have achieved in 2022 and have positioned the Kia Rio as the favorite car of Mexicans. We are deeply appreciative of the whole effort,” said Horacio Chavez, Managing Director of Kia Mexico.
The South Korean company has assembled 97,447 Rio models in both sedans and hatchbacks from January to December 2022. His 52% of this volume was destined for sale on the domestic market, the rest exported to the world.
