Maruti Suzuki cars get more expensive from today

Maruti Suzuki cars are now priced about 1.1% higher, with price increases across the model line-up. The company previously attributed the price increase to a variety of factors. “While the company is doing its utmost to reduce costs and partially offset the increase, it has become imperative to pass on some of the impact through higher prices,” the company said in a notice. “We are planning this price increase in January 2023 and this will vary by model.”

Maruti Suzuki continues to lead the passenger car segment in the Indian automotive sector, but has recently had to fend off fierce challenges from rivals such as Tata Motors and Mahindra, which have bolstered their SUV portfolios. Maruti Suzuki is confident in its compact cars, but it is also strengthening its SUV lineup with the Jimny and Fronx in addition to the Brezza and Grand Vitara. The company has opened pre-orders for the Jimny and Fronx at his Auto Expo 2023, with two upcoming launches. Officials also said Maruti Suzuki is confident of becoming his top SUV maker in the country.

The price increase itself occurs when demand is strong and order books are full. While higher prices usually tend to dampen consumer confidence, most other OEMs have also announced price hikes, making the new year more expensive than before, regardless of body type or price point.
