According to Mercedes, the VAN.EA platform will be used for fully electric mid- and heavy-duty commercial vans. By 2025, all newly introduced Mercedes van models will be electric only.
In addition to Jawor, a fully electric van will be built in Düsseldorf, Germany. Ludwigsfelde, Germany. and Vitoria, Spain.
The Düsdeldorf factory is already building the current generation of the all-electric Sprinter Large Panel Van. Mercedes said the new generation will start production in the second half of next year. The open-sided electric sprinter will be manufactured in Ludwigsfelde from 2024.
Vitoria will continue to manufacture EQV and (e)Vito, mid-size fully electric vans, moving models to the VAN.EA architecture in the mid-2020s.
The small all-electric van (Citanium, T-Class) will continue to be built at Renault’s plant in Maubeuge, France, based on the architecture of the Renault-Nissan Alliance.
Europe’s leading van manufacturers offer an increasing number of fully electric models. Stellantis already offers electric versions of its entire range for Citroen, Peugeot and Opel, as well as most of the Fiat models and vans it makes for Toyota. Renault will soon offer three of his full electric van sizes, and Ford is also changing its range.
