PARIS — Groupe Renault’s global car sales will fall by 5.9% to 2.05 million in 2022. Dacia’s gains could not offset the decline in the core Renault brand. Sales figures do not include Russia, where Renault left following Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.
Looking ahead, Renault said in a news release on Wednesday that a record 3.5 months of orders in Europe would boost sales in 2023.
Taking into account the Russian market, where the Renault brand and Lada vehicles were sold, Renault’s global sales fell by 24%. In the Eurasia region, which includes Russia, sales fell from 699,964 to 152,318 units, according to Renault figures.
Under CEO Luca de Meo, the group has emphasized value-over-volume sales and Wednesday’s sales report showed progress on that strategy. 67% of sales in the three major markets came from the more profitable retail channel, an increase of 8.7 percentage points from 2021.

On Tuesday, sales of the Renault brand rose 21% in the European compact segment, which has seen weak sales in recent years.
