what’s new?
The rugged 2023 Jeep Compass gets a welcome update with a new turbocharged engine, standard all-wheel drive, and more standard features. Prices start at $29,995.
The 2023 Jeep Compass is a little different than a small SUV. It’s a practical daily commuter that’s easy to drive, but with the off-road capability to live up to the Jeep name. Compass is making some significant updates for the 2023 model year. That means a turbocharged engine, standard all-wheel drive, and more standard driver-assist technology features to remain competitive in the subcompact SUV class. The main rivals for small off-road SUVs are the Ford Bronco Sport and the Subaru (7270.TO) Crosstrek.

what’s new?
The big talk of the 2023 Jeep Compass is the new turbocharged engine. On paper, it’s a major upgrade to the engine that replaces him with an additional 23 horsepower and 49 lb-ft of torque. All models now come standard with all-wheel drive.
Compass also gets more standard safety features this year. New standard features include sleepy driver detection, back seat reminder alerts, and security alarms. Automatic high beams are standard on all but the base sport trim.
2023 jeep compass driving
We hope the new turbocharged engine will bring the Compass to life in a way that its predecessor lacked. His discontinued four-cylinder engine was a bit of a bummer, but hopefully the power and torque of the turbo will give this little SUV some momentum under its feet.
In our experience driving the Compass with older engines, it is one of the best off-roaders in its class when equipped with all-wheel drive. Now that AWD is standard, all 2023 Compasses make excellent off-roaders. The Trailhawk is especially tough thanks to its extra ground clearance, off-road tires, skid plate and lock mode.
As for on-road sophistication, the Compass is comfortable and easy to drive. It is an SUV that runs on paved roads like a compact car, and its small footprint makes it easy to park.
modern interior
The interior of the Jeep Compass feels fresh after being updated for model year 2022. The design is sleek and modern, centered around his user-friendly 10.1-inch Uconnect 5 infotainment system. The quality of interior materials is what you’d expect at this price point, and gets a lot better in limited trim with leather seats, automatic climate control, and other tech features.
The Compass has plenty of room in both rows of seats with plenty of rear legroom for an SUV of this size. The Compass’s luggage compartment is a little tight, but it’s wider than the Subaru Crosstrek.
rugged exterior
The Jeep Compass benefits from the recognizable aesthetics of the iconic Jeep brand. Featuring a traditional 7-slot grille, heavy-duty Trailhawk trim and (RED) Edition and High Altitude models offer a unique look package in the well-equipped Limited trim with varying looks across the model range.
As for size, the Compass is on the big side for subcompact SUVs. In the Jeep lineup, the Compass sits between the smaller Renegade and the larger Cherokee.

OUR FAVORITE FEATURES AND TECHNOLOGIES
TURBO ENGINE We’re thrilled to have a turbocharged engine under the hood of the Compass. Compared to its predecessor, the new turbo engine improves the on-road and off-road performance of this SUV.
Jeep Active Drive 4×4 The standard Jeep Active Drive 4×4 system is the foundation that makes the Compass a great off-roader. This is a fully automatic system that delivers torque to the wheels that need it most.
Selec-Terrain The standard Selec-Terrain system allows the AWD system to be optimized for any terrain encountered. Most of the time you’ll want to leave it in auto mode, but there’s also snow mode and sand/mud mode, and the addition of Trailhawk trim adds a rock mode for more serious off-roading.
Uconnect 5 This 10.1-inch infotainment system is easy to use and packed with features. It has wireless Android Auto and Apple (AAPL) CarPlay, a wireless charging pad and an Alpine premium audio system.
Highway Assist The available Highway Assist system does exactly what its name suggests. Available on Limited and Trailhawk models, this semi-autonomous driving system uses features such as Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assist to reduce the burden on the driver while driving on the highway.
TrailhawkThe Compass Trailhawk is more than just a cosmetic package. It has trail-rated off-road capabilities thanks to a 20:1 crawl ratio, lock mode, extra 1 inch of ground clearance, off-road tires and skid plate.
