Consumer Reports recently released their annual survey information on the reliability of each vehicle. Toyota continues to have some of the most reliable cars on the market, but one SUV stands out as the least reliable. Which other vehicles were rated as unreliable and how did they rank in each SUV category this year?
Overall reliability ranking of various SUVs
Results from the data collected by Consumer Reports show that various classes of sport utility vehicles rank across the list of most reliable automobiles. First, a subcompact SUV comes in at number six on his list, the Subaru Crosstrek.
Next came the Luxury Compact SUV class, which came in 7th place. This is the Lincoln Corsair, which scored pretty high on the CR as far as overall ratings go. Then there’s the compact SUV category, which slides into tenth place on the list. An example of this class is his RAV4 model from Toyota. This actually sits below the pack of Toyota vehicles under study.
11th in the medium-sized 2-row class. Here, the Jeep Grand Cherokee in this class did not perform well at all. Finally, his midsize 3-row/large SUV is on his 15th spot on the list. One example is the Kia Sorento. However, this model received below average ratings in CR.
Consumer Reports picks the least reliable SUV in 2022
The list finds Mercedes-Benz to be the least reliable brand this year, down five places from last year’s survey. However, when it comes to individual scores for each model of the SUV and brand, one particular model stands out, and it’s not Mercedes-Benz. 2023 Jeep Wrangler.
The Jeep brand is second to last on the list, down one place from last year. Wrangler scored the lowest among the Jeep products surveyed as far as he was concerned with SUVs, and consumers weren’t too happy with this. The Cherokee ranked far higher, but the Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L version are just a few points above the Wrangler.
The overall score for Consumer Reports is pretty low, and we can see that reliability is a big reason. In the last ten years of data examined by this publication, the model had been dealing with body, brake, and suspension issues for quite a few years.
Most concerning is the major engine issue that has plagued this version for six of the ten years CR has collected data.
Runner-up for Least Reliable Vehicle
We know the Jeep Wrangler is the least reliable SUV in the survey, but which came in, so to speak, as the “runner-up”? According to USA Today, the Wrangler model is followed by a 2022 Mercedes. -Benz GLE. Of the two versions listed under this brand, the GLE and the E-Class, the GLE scored the worst, but not by much. The E class is only about 6 points more.
Coming in third on our list is the 2022 Jeep Gladiator. Gladiator is still relatively new, so its reliability score is in the average range. So far this jeep truck has had problems with the body, suspension and electrical system. It also addresses drive component issues as well as engine and transmission issues.
In fourth place is the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500/GMC Sierra 1500. The Consumer Reports listing shows that his two truck scores are lower than those of the Jeep, but looking at the 2023 data, Chevy’s overall score is higher than that of the Wrangler. GMC Sierra 1500 also tied.
The Jeep Wrangler has been around for quite some time, but CR says the SUV has become less reliable over the last decade or so. Some areas appear to be improving, but it still suffers from some pretty serious problems. I hope that
