VW Golf R Drag Race Is A Clash Of Three Generations


The Volkswagen Golf R has been around for over 20 years. The most powerful and hardcore version of the popular hatchback and also the fastest VW R model on the Nürburgring. The Golf R is one of our favorite hot hatches of his, but which of his three generations is the best?There’s no better way than straight drag racing.

However, these are no ordinary golfs. Each of these performance hatches has been heavily modified with hardware and software upgrades. Starting with the Trio’s oldest model, the Golf R MK6 is powered by his Stage 3 modification of his 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, with a maximum output of 450 hp (335 kW) he. Improvements to the factory 4-cylinder mill include a new turbocharger, injectors, intercooler, exhaust system, high pressure fuel pump and more. The result is a vehicle that looks somewhat understated but has a lot of power hidden under the hood.

Next up is the 7th generation Golf in R form with a 420 hp (313 kW) Stage 2 tuning kit. This vehicle is from the facelifted version of the hatch with a new intercooler and new he ECU and TCU software. It might be a little less powerful than the older Golf R in this race, but it’s the lightest of the trio, with a decent power-to-weight ratio of 287 horsepower per tonne.

Last but not least, there is also the latest generation Golf R, which also has a 2.0-liter in-line four-cylinder turbo engine. It’s not the strongest contender in this competition, as it only features Stage 1 changes to the mill, including a new carbon fiber intake and new his ECU software. It’s the newest of the bunch and also the heaviest with a power-to-weight ratio of 253 horsepower per tonne. All three cars are equipped with all-wheel drive systems and dual-clutch automatic transmissions.

So, which Golf R will win? This is a rather difficult question. The performance of these three cars is very similar, with minimal differences at the finish line. I’m not going to spoil the video and tell you the results, but let me just say that the most powerful car is not necessarily the fastest.
